The Mother of Sanctuary, Lilith, returns with Diablo 4's release. One thing many players in the beta and full release might want to know about is the Diablo 4 World Tier difficulty levels.

This guide explains the requirements for each World Tier in Diablo 4 and the effects these difficulty levels have both on the player, item drop rates, and the monsters of Sanctuary.

Update on 21 July 2023: This article has been updated with the latest information on Diablo 4's World Tier Difficulty levels.

World Tier level requirements have officially been disabled with Diablo 4 Patch 1.10B.

All Diablo 4 World Tier Difficulty Levels & Unlocks

Diablo 4 has a total of four World Tier difficulty levels.

The first two World Tier difficulty levels are quite easy to explain. World Tier 1 is called "Adventurer" and is the default difficulty setting when you first play Diablo 4. Enemies are easier to defeat, and item drops are average.

Next up is World Tier 2, aka Veteran. This is meant for Diablo veterans and provides a nice challenge. There is no unlock requirement, and it can be selected even on a low level. This difficulty level has better drops than World Tier 1, and you get a nice 20% XP Bonus and more Gold drops from monsters.

Now we get to the World Tier difficulty levels in Diablo 4 that are not part of the Open Beta weekends but will be available when the game launches. These difficulty levels require specific actions to unlock and provide bonuses, additional item drops, monster spawns, and player resistance reduction.

Diablo 4 World Tier 3 Nightmare Difficulty:

  • How to unlock: Clear the Cathedral of Light dungeon in World Tier 2 (Level 50 recommended).
  • Non-physical resistance is reduced by 20% for the player.
  • Champion Monster spawns can now happen.
  • Sacred and unique items start dropping
  • Players get a 100% XP Bonus.
  • Unlocks Nightmare Sigils, which you can use to unlock Nightmare Dungeons in Diablo 4.

Diablo 4 World Tier 4 Torment Difficulty:

  • How to unlock: Fully complete the Fallen Temple dungeon in World Tier 3 difficulty (Level 70 Recommended)
  • Non-physical resistance is reduced by 30% for the player.
  • Ancestral items start dropping
  • Players get a 150% XP Bonus.
  • Get rare Nightmare Sigils for increasingly challenging Nightmare Dungeon runs.

So there you have it, all the World Tier difficulty levels in Diablo 4, how you can unlock them featuring requirement details, alongside the bonuses/caveats players need to be aware of.

We might see more World Tier difficulty levels added in the new seasons of Diablo 4. To this end, we will endeavor to update this article as soon as new information about Diablo 4's difficulty levels becomes available.
